The base cards and parallels are only half of the modern hobby. The other half is inserts — the themed subsets seeded into packs — and for a superstar like Nikola Jokic, a 3x NBA MVP and the 2023 champion and Finals MVP, the marquee chase inserts are some of the most valuable and eye-catching cards in his entire run. This page maps that insert landscape line by line and opens live eBay listings for each, so you’re always looking at what’s actually for sale.
These cards trade on eBay, not Amazon. The buttons open live listings and sold comps — real, current prices, not values we publish.
Source: the 2023-24 Panini Prizm Basketball checklist published by checklistinsider.com (released 21 February 2024) is a useful worked example of how a flagship insert lineup is actually built. That year Prizm’s published insert sets were Deep Space, Dominance, Emergent, Fireworks, Fractal, Global Reach, Instant Impact, Kaleidoscopic, Luck of the Lottery, Prizm Break and Prizmania — eleven named lines, each with its own coloured-prizm parallels layered on top, and Jokić is base card #17 in that set. Note that Kaboom! and Downtown! are not on it: those live in other Panini products, which is exactly the distinction this page is drawing. For the record, checklistinsider indexes NBA products from 2023-24 onward, so the earlier-year insert numbering discussed below is not something we can source — treat it as listing-attested.
Why inserts are their own chase
An insert is a special subset dropped into a product alongside the base set — usually with its own artwork, its own name, and its own parallel rainbow on top. The biggest lines are super short prints (SSPs) or case hits: pulled so rarely that they carry a large premium even when they aren’t serial-numbered. Because the designs are bold and instantly recognizable, marquee inserts are among the most liquid cards in Jokic’s modern run — they move fast when they’re listed.
We name the insert families generally below — we don’t publish pull rates, card numbers, or print runs, because those are best confirmed against live listings, which is exactly what the eBay buttons do. This page consolidates the insert intent that also shows up on his championship & MVP cards and Mosaic cards pages into one reference.
The marquee chase lines, tier by tier
- Kaboom! The most famous modern basketball insert, with a comic-book art style and a cult following. Jokic’s Kaboom! is one of his single most-chased cards, a genuine case-hit-tier chase in the Panini flagship products that carry the line.
- Downtown! A cityscape-themed SSP built around each player’s team — Jokic’s leans into Denver. Downtown! sits right alongside Kaboom! at the top of the insert market, and demand rarely cools.
- Color Blast. A splashy, painted-color design that’s become one of the hobby’s most collected chase lines. Jokic’s Color Blast is a marquee pull whenever it appears.
- Stained Glass. A striking mosaic-of-light design that shows up in select premium products. Lower-supply and visually distinctive, it’s a favorite among collectors who chase art-driven inserts.
- Hyper, Honeycomb & other flashy lines. Below the top SSPs sits a deep field of recurring chase inserts — Hyper, Honeycomb, and product-specific lines — that are more attainable but still a big part of why the brands are collected. Each has its own parallel rainbow on top.
Inserts carry parallels too
The chase doesn’t stop at the base insert. Most marquee lines have their own parallel rainbow — colored and serial-numbered versions layered on top of the standard insert — so a single line like Downtown! or Color Blast can span a wide range of budgets and scarcities. The numbered parallels of a top insert are among the rarest non-1/1 cards in Jokic’s modern run. The eBay rails above surface whichever parallels are currently listed.
How to approach the Jokic insert chase
- Pick your line. A base Hyper, a Kaboom!, and a numbered Color Blast parallel are three very different budgets and three different markets. Decide which design you actually want to own before you start bidding.
- Grade matters on the flashy ones. For the marquee lines, a PSA 10 / BGS 9.5 can be worth many multiples of a raw copy — the bold designs live and die on clean edges and centering. Buy graded for anything above four figures, and if you’re grading your own, run the numbers first with our grading-ROI calculator and check the corners with the centering tool.
- Price against sold comps. The buttons above open live eBay results you can filter to sold listings, so you’re reading the real market instead of asking prices.
Where inserts fit in a Jokic collection
Inserts are the flashy top layer, not the foundation. If you’re building from the ground up, start with a graded 2015-16 rookie — the base of any Jokic collection — then add the inserts you love. To read the broader market, see what a Jokic card is worth; for his chrome rainbows, the Prizm parallels page and Mosaic cards page cover the parallel side, and the championship & MVP cards page covers his title-run cut. For the top of the market, see the autographs & top cards page. New to all of it? The collecting guide and the Nikola Jokic player hub tie the eras together, and the rookie card checklist covers his 2015-16 foundation brand by brand.
